These Goddess EarWings, made and designed (and patented) by Philip Thornton www.philipthornton.co.nztell a whole story.
The 3 ovals are a Celtic symbol for the goddess, or the three ages of Woman. (Maiden, Mother, Grandmother) Encircled as these are in a complete circle, indicates the completeness of life. Also of course, the moon. The Ear Ring is Hand made in Sterling Silver, Silver being the metal of the Goddess.
The EarWing style is designed to sit up the ear rather than dangle down, as shown on the picture.
Contemporary jewellery needs to be tempered with good design, fine workmanship and an understanding of the need for a piece to be both beautiful and wearable. I believe that jewellery is a language. Yes, it can and should, be something beautiful in it's own right, but each piece also tells a story about it's owner and it is contemporary jewellery that has by far the largest vocabulary.

Fingers Gallery is hosting an exhibition, starting October 1st, by Lisa Walker.
The items on show include:
a sheepskin with a hole cut in the middle, to be worn about the neck. Quite a large statement piece.
a pin made from hand bent 9kt Gold wire threaded with pearls.
and several broaches and pendants in silver, aluminium, plastic and glue.(Below is a silver Broach.)
Each will make statements to the wearer and about the wearer, just as all jewellery should.
Contemporary Jewellery is both an accessory and an art form. Your Jewellery, like your shoes, can be worn and admired for the design and effective use of materials for many years.
